Charges

This page lists every amount Forto charges merchants, who bills it, and how and when each one is taken. It covers the same charges as our Terms of Service and our pricing page. Amounts are in US dollars unless stated otherwise.

1. Who bills you

Forto’s own charges are the plan (section 2) and Forto’s fees (sections 3 and 4). Who bills them is fixed when your store first installs Forto:

  • Installed from the Shopify App Store without having paid Forto first: Shopify bills them on your Shopify bill — the plan as a monthly subscription you choose on Shopify’s plan page, and Forto’s fees as usage charges. Shopify’s terms for app charges apply, and Shopify applies the taxes on your Shopify bill.
  • Paid Forto directly before installing, or under an Enterprise order form: Forto bills them. The biller is RLD Solutions, registered in Denmark under CVR 41171790, trading as Forto. Payments are processed by Stripe; your card details are held by Stripe, never by Forto.

The amounts Forto passes on at cost (section 5) are billed by Forto for every store and taken from your prepaid wallet, which you fund by card through Stripe (section 6). Shopify never bills them, and Forto adds nothing to them.

Every fee is set in US dollars, the fee for labels on your own carrier account included. Where Forto bills them, amounts are converted to your wallet’s currency at the live exchange rate when they are charged.

VAT. On charges Forto bills, Forto’s prices exclude VAT. Forto is established in Denmark, and the VAT on its charges depends on where your business is established:

  • Denmark: 25% Danish VAT, except on shipments leaving the EU. Their labels and the charges that come with them, meaning Forto’s label fees, carrier corrections, the carrier’s fee for paying duties and the duty calculation fee, are exempt from VAT.
  • Another EU country: with a VAT number, no Danish VAT; you account for the VAT in your own country under the reverse charge. Without a VAT number, as for Denmark.
  • Outside the EU: no Danish VAT.

Duties and import taxes Forto pays to authorities for your shipments carry no VAT. The VAT on Forto’s charges is taken from your wallet when your monthly invoice is issued (section 9); an Enterprise invoice adds it to the invoice.

2. Plan subscription

Pro$199$1,910.40

  • Plans Shopify bills are monthly. You choose, change and cancel them on Shopify’s plan page for Forto, and Shopify charges them with your Shopify bill; proration and failed payments follow Shopify’s billing. Yearly billing is available only on plans Forto bills.
  • On a plan Forto bills, Growth and Pro are charged in advance and renew automatically until you cancel — monthly on the day you signed up, or yearly. The yearly price is twelve months less 20%.
  • Enterprise is not sold self-service. Its fee, modules, coverage line and term are set in a written order form. The coverage line is priced into that fee; nothing is charged for it after the month.
  • Enterprise is billed after use instead of from a prepaid wallet: one invoice each Monday for the past week's usage, at the rates in section 3, with the monthly fee on the invoice made on its date, against a deposit the order form sets. Sections 4, 6 and 7 apply to Enterprise only where its order form says so.
  • On a plan Forto bills, moving between Growth and Pro takes effect immediately. Stripe prorates the difference on your next invoice.
  • On a plan Forto bills, cancelling takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Forto does not refund part of a period.
  • On a plan Forto bills, if a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it. If it still fails after 21 days, your plan moves to Starter.

3. Fees on shipments and orders

Per-label fee — every label, on Forto’s carrier account or your own$0.07$0.07$0.07$0.07
Calculation fee for duties and taxes — % of the duties and taxes Forto pays at the border—10%9%7%
VAT-carried fee, including IOSS — % of the tax Forto carries under its own registration——4%3%

“—” means the plan does not include the service, so the fee never arises.

  • Label on Forto’s carrier account: when the label is created, your wallet is debited for the carrier’s rate. The markup and the per-label fee are debited with it where Forto bills your fees, or added to your Shopify bill as usage where Shopify does. The amounts are shown separately.
  • Label on your own carrier account: your carrier bills you for postage directly and Forto adds no markup to your rate. Forto charges only the per-label fee, from your wallet or on your Shopify bill (section 1). Starter does not include labels on your own carrier account.
  • Calculation fee: charged when a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) label is created, on the estimated duties and taxes debited for that shipment. It is not charged on the carrier’s fee for paying them (section 5). Starter does not include DDP. On a DDP label on your own carrier account your carrier pays the duties and bills you for them, so Forto takes no duties from your wallet and charges no calculation fee. Billed as in section 1: from your wallet, or as usage on your Shopify bill.
  • VAT-carried fee: charged only on tax Forto carries under its own registration — as seller and taxpayer of record (Terms §6.4) or as your IOSS intermediary (Managed VAT, Terms §7) — when that tax is collected. No fee applies to tax filed under your own registration. On Enterprise the rate can instead be set in your order form. Billed as in section 1: from your wallet, or as usage on your Shopify bill.

4. Past your plan’s monthly limits

  • Limits run per calendar month. Overage is added up after the month closes, on the 1st of the following month, and debited from your wallet in one entry or billed as usage on your Shopify bill.
  • A DDP label counts toward both the label limit and the DDP-label limit. A DDP label past both limits is charged one overage fee, not two.
  • An own-carrier order counts only on Enterprise contracts that ship cross-border on their own carrier account: a cross-border order Forto priced at checkout that shipped on that account. It counts once, when it ships. An order Forto ships counts as a label instead, never both, and domestic orders never count.
  • No fee is charged for going past the number of product variants Forto classifies for your plan, or past the coverage line on Pro and Enterprise.

5. Amounts Forto passes on at cost

Forto adds no fee or margin to the amounts below: you pay what the carrier or the authority charges. The fees in sections 3 and 4 are Forto’s only charges on top.

  • Postage: the carrier’s rate for labels bought on Forto’s carrier accounts, and for return labels bought through Forto. Debited from your wallet when the label is created.
  • Import duties and taxes on DDP shipments: the estimate is debited from your wallet before the label is created. When customs or the carrier’s broker sets the actual amount, typically 7–30 days after delivery, the difference is settled: a higher amount is debited, a lower one is credited back to your wallet.
  • The carrier’s fee for paying duties: when a carrier pays duties or taxes at the border for a DDP shipment, it charges its own brokerage, disbursement or duty-forwarding fee. Forto passes it on at the price the carrier charges Forto. It is included in the duties and taxes your customer pays at checkout, debited from your wallet with them, shown as its own amount on the wallet entry, and settled against the carrier’s invoice. Where nothing is paid at the border, there is no such fee.
  • Import VAT or GST that Forto carries: where Forto is seller of record or your IOSS intermediary, the tax collected at checkout is debited from your wallet when the label is created, kept apart from Forto’s own money, and paid to the tax authority.
  • Carrier corrections: charges a carrier bills after shipment — weight or size re-rating, address corrections, remote-area and residential surcharges, return-to-sender fees and similar — for up to 90 days after the shipment date, at the amount on the carrier’s invoice. Forto does not charge a correction it cannot verify with the carrier’s invoice data. If the carrier bills less than the label price, the difference is credited to your wallet.
  • Tax assessed because of inaccurate data: tax, penalties or interest assessed against Forto because product classifications, declared values or shipment data you provided were inaccurate (Terms §6.4 and §7).
  • Danish VAT on refunded goods: if you are established in Denmark and Forto is seller of record for your orders, the Danish VAT Forto passed to you on goods later refunded is taken back from your balance (Terms §6.5).

6. Funding the wallet

  • You add funds by card through Stripe, at any time. Adding funds carries no fee.
  • Automatic top-up is turned on when you attach a card. When your balance cannot cover a charge, Forto charges your card the top-up amount you set — $200 unless you change it. You can change the amount or turn automatic top-up off in Settings → Billing & Wallet. With it off, label creation pauses when your balance is too low.
  • Minimum balance: $100 (Terms §4.2). If a charge is still larger than your balance after the top-up — a large carrier correction, for example — Forto charges your card the shortfall plus $100.
  • DDP shipments: before a DDP label is created, your balance must cover the label, the estimated duties and taxes, and the reserves currently held (section 7). If it does not, Forto charges your card the difference.
  • Ceiling on automatic shortfall charges: Forto does not automatically charge more than $250 on Starter, $500 on Growth, $1,000 on Pro or $5,000 on Enterprise in a single shortfall charge. Above that, it asks you first.
  • Your authorisation: when you add a card you authorise Forto to charge it without you present for three things: your plan subscription where Forto bills it, wallet top-ups, and corrections after shipment. If you change your default card, you are asked to authorise again before any such charge is made.

7. Reserves

A reserve is part of your balance set aside against later corrections on a shipment. It is not a charge: it stays in your wallet and is released when the shipment settles. Reserves are held only on labels on Forto’s carrier accounts; on your own carrier account, corrections are between you and your carrier.

  • Each label: 5% of the carrier cost, held until the carrier’s invoice settles or for 60 days.
  • Each DDP label: a share of the estimated duties and taxes, held until the customs entry settles or for 30 days. The share is 20% in your first 30 days of shipping and 12% after that; 30% while your account has a compliance warning or restriction, and 50% while it is suspended. Once 50 or more of your DDP shipments have settled in the last 30 days, it is instead 12% if the estimates were within 5% of the actual amounts, and 20% if not.
  • A correction on a shipment is taken from that shipment’s reserve first, then from your balance.
  • An Enterprise agreement can set different reserve terms.

8. Closing your account

  • A request to return your balance is opened automatically when you uninstall the app. You can also ask for it at support@forto.app.
  • Forto returns your balance, less any reserves still held, to the card payments that funded it, newest first. It does so once the reserves on your last shipments have been released and a further 30 days have passed, so late carrier invoices can still be settled. Any amount that cannot be refunded to an original card payment is paid out to you separately.
  • Carrier corrections within 90 days of a shipment can still be charged after you close (Terms §10). Your subscription ends at the end of the current billing period.

9. Seeing what you were charged

  • Wallet activity (Settings → Billing & Wallet) lists every debit and credit with what it was for.
  • Receipts: every charge Forto makes to your card without you present is followed the same day by an email receipt with the amount, what it was for and your balance afterwards.
  • Low-balance alert: an email when your balance falls to your alert level — $20 unless you change it.
  • Monthly invoice: on the 1st of each month Forto issues a numbered invoice for the previous month and emails it to you. It lists everything taken from your wallet that month and your subscription, shows duties and import taxes paid on your behalf separately from Forto’s services, and states the VAT on each line. The VAT on it is taken from your wallet when it is issued; everything else on it records charges already made. Charges Shopify bills are on your Shopify bill, not on Forto’s invoice.

10. Questions and disputes

  • Questions about a charge: support@forto.app.
  • Disputes and formal notices: legal@forto.app. An error on a self-billed invoice must be reported there within 14 days of receiving it (Terms §6.5).
