Duty and tax themselves pass through to carriers and tax authorities. Your customer pays the carrier’s fee for paying duties inside the duty-paid rate at checkout; Forto’s calculation fee is never charged on it. Plans and Forto’s fees are in USD: billed through Shopify when you install from the Shopify App Store, or by Forto through Stripe when you paid Forto first. Yearly billing applies to plans Forto bills. Enterprise is invoiced by your account team.

LIMITS

What happens when you reach a limit.

Orders — labels
A small fee per extra order, billed from your wallet at month end ($1.00 / $0.75 per extra label on Growth / Pro) — or upgrade. Starter stops at 50 labels.
Variants classified
Nothing is billed. The rest of your catalog quotes at an estimated (high) duty, or uses the HS codes you set yourself — exact duties on a large catalog is what Enterprise is for.
Forto as taxpayer of record ($25k a month on Pro)
Never billed, never blocked. Coverage stops for the rest of the month and orders continue under your own VAT number or with duties paid at the door. More coverage means Enterprise, with wallet reserves behind it.

Questions about pricing.

What does each plan make Forto responsible for?
Starter: nothing. Your customers pay duties and tax at the door. Growth: duties at checkout. You file your own VAT — Forto tells you where and when. Pro: duties at checkout and VAT under Forto's number. Under Forto's number up to $25k of cross-border sales a month; past that line, your own. Enterprise: duties at checkout and VAT under Forto's number. Under Forto's number on a coverage line set with your account team; past that line, your own. “Duties at checkout” means Forto collects duty and import tax with the order and pays it at the border, so nothing is due on delivery. “VAT under Forto's number” means Forto sells as the seller of record and registers, files and pays the VAT under its own number, so you need no registration there.
What is the $25k a month on Pro?
Where Forto holds the registration, it is the taxpayer of record on Pro: it charges, files and pays the tax, and answers to the tax office for it. Pro covers up to $25k of your cross-border sales a month; orders past that continue under your own number or with duties paid at the door. It is a limit, never a charge — like a credit line, it bounds how much tax Forto answers for on your behalf each month.
What is a quoted order?
A quoted order is a cross-border order Forto priced at checkout that shipped on your own carrier account. Only Enterprise contracts ship that way, so only they count quoted orders.
Do you charge per label?
Yes — and it's published, not hidden. On Forto-pool labels: a markup of 8/7/6/5% on the carrier rate (Starter to Enterprise), plus $0.07 per label on every plan. When your own carrier account wins routing, your carrier bills you your negotiated rate and Forto charges only the per-label fee — no markup on your rate.
What is the VAT-carried fee?
A percentage of the VAT Forto carries under its own registration (Pro 4%, Enterprise 3%). VAT filed under your own number carries no fee.
Why is Enterprise booked instead of self-serve?
Enterprise sets a coverage line backed by your wallet reserves and prices your whole catalog exactly. Pricing is standard — sized by your catalog's variant count, with the coverage line set with your account team at the size you need — but a person sets it up with you before you install, so your first screen is already Enterprise.
Can I switch plans?
Any time between Starter, Growth and Pro. Plan changes take effect immediately — Stripe prorates the difference on your next invoice, in both directions.
Is there a long-term contract?
Not on Starter, Growth or Pro: monthly or yearly billing, cancel any time, and you keep access until the period ends. Enterprise runs on a term agreed with your account team.
